Pas de Deux
(On the occasion of Darian and Alison's wedding)
The stage is set, the play is on,
In serried ranks rehearsed about the Bridal Pair
We, players all within these hollow walls,
Gave each our tune, the very air
Conducts an ageless song

With measured pace in dignity
She steps, a swan upon a mirrored pool in sail,
And as from each decree new brightness falls
Through the mist of her bridal veil
Whose grace is that we see?

A moment's pause, an inward glance
Is that perchance the flicker of a far-flung room
Some other Bride on centre stage recalled
Some distant age, another Groom
Inhabiting the dance?

Cue silence then, and strain to hear
The phantom melody we tread upon the boards
Ring down the ages from echoing halls.
Cue music then, from all those hordes
Who've danced the pas de deux

In silent song we sing anew
The chorus of our mingling strains. The muted bars
As stately night precedes Aurora's calls
Cue harmony for these twinned stars
To dance their steps for two.
